Suggested Route: The Caledonia Way
One of our recommended rides follows a beautiful section of National Cycle Network Route 78 – The Caledonia Way, starting just outside the house and heading to Ballachulish.
This popular route follows much of the former railway line from Connel to the Ballachulish slate quarries, creating a scenic and largely flat ride that is ideal for leisurely exploration. Along the way, you’ll enjoy long stretches beside lochs, spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, and coastal scenery overlooking Loch Linnhe, Castle Stalker, and the islands of Mull and Lismore.
The route is mostly traffic-free, with only a few short sections on quiet minor roads, making it suitable for riders with moderate fitness and a great option for guests looking for a relaxed day out on two wheels.
The distance is approximately 28 miles one way. A full return journey would be close to the maximum battery range of the bikes when using limited pedal assist, though many guests may prefer to turn it into a more leisurely adventure by stopping at some of the cafés, viewpoints and villages along the route before returning. There are plenty of opportunities to pause, explore and enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
